The startling thing pisses me off so bad. If you suddenly scream or gasp, I’m immediately in fight or flight mode and slamming on the brakes, swerving, whatever because I’m going to assume my passenger saw something I didn’t.

Yes. Even if it's under an hour (like 30 mins) I'd say still offer to contribute for gas. I won't take it if I'm in a good financial position at the time, but the gesture is still GREATLY appreciated.
