As a black woman, I don’t think bonnets should be worn in public. Those are sleepwear. There are headscarves you can wear out in public during the day if your hair is not fixed, but when you wear a bonnet outside you look like you just rolled out of bed.

Thank you!! I’m so tired of black women going outside looking unpresentable, then wondering why we as a collective are not taken seriously. If you wouldn’t go outside in a night slip, you shouldn’t go outside in a bonnet. End of discussion!!

I don’t agree fuck what them ppl think if I’m at Walmart I don’t care if you take me seriously or not I’m here to do what I gotta do and leave. A lot of ppl put it on to protect their hair or hair styles. And really laid under it. “And some ppl ain’t got time for that “ in my black woman voice

Yeah and I don’t like that either lol. When you do that, you look like you don’t shower when you get up. I don’t get why y’all do that, but it’s an American thing to leave your house in whatever so y’all do you.

I’m not policing anything here lmao. Please do what you want. I’m just sharing my personal opinion, which is that bonnets are a type of head covering meant to sleep in, and that there are better ways to go about it if you must cover your hair in public. But literally who tf am I to tell you not to wear your bonnet in public? I’m not gonna call you ghetto or dirty or anything just cos you have a different opinion lol. 💀

I still agree with you 100%. I wear my bonnets to sleep only. If I have to go out and I need my hair covered I wrap it in a cute scarf or a turban! My outside scarf game is crazy now cuz I be tying them up all different type of ways to make them look cute the African style ones are so cute😁

Literally!! White girls have messy buns and we have turbans. (I have like 6 💀) People under the original thread tried to make it seem like I was promoting negativity toward bonnets, but in reality I’m just saying that I don’t think you should wear pyjamas in public! Present yourself a bit! Even if I don’t shower in the morning, you will never catch me outside in what I wore to sleep. Wash the sleep off your face and wrap your hair!!

I’m from the Caribbean in a small country that is 95% black. I hardly ever see people out in bonnets, but when I do, people look at them weird because now you’re wondering if they’ve bathed for the day. Nobody looks that way at people wearing turbans and scarves. Those protect your hairstyles too.

I get you! I also don’t wear pajamas in public because like you said, it looks like you just rolled out of bed. It’s a presentation thing. And to the people talking about protecting their hair, be ever so serious right now, bonnets are the only thing that does that?
