I don’t think you’re the asshole, though I do think it depends on how obsessed she is. I also watch a lot of gay tv shows and stuff, but that’s mostly because I can enjoy gay romance without putting myself in the shoes of a female character. I also feel like gay romance doesn’t have the same stereotypes and inherent power imbalances that straight romance typically has. But if she’s truly obsessing and it carries over to real life, that’s concerning.
I appreciate everyone’s perspectives from those who commented, but I’ve noticed arguments in here and I just want to say that I’ve since talked to one of my gay bsfs and he agreed with me that she takes things too far. I thought it was possible I was being a bit dramatic, which is why I asked for other opinions but I think my perspective on this has since solidified, so I’m going to choose my own and my gay friends’ comfort over my friendship with that girl and that’s ok :) case closed!
Yeah! I def don’t wanna come across like I’m anti-gay media. I also watch it, and I don’t think that’s an issue on any level. It wouldn’t be creepy to me if it was just watching it, my issue has been when she started shipping two straight men (and never anyone else, never two women, never man x woman, etc) AND when she started “shipping” our straight male friends in real life (and again… no one else)
