To all the people who say I have no trust or not fully invested in the marriage and that I’m banking on divorce if I ask for a prenup let me ask u this, why do you buy insurance? Why do you buy car insurance if you never plan on getting in a crash?

Prenups are basically insurance for marriage. So would you not get insurance on something that is statistically proven to have over a 50% fail rate

It should be universal. A given Failing to get one, is actual straight up gambling. And if placing bets on someone else’s marriage is incredibly inappropriate (I’m told that’s a pretty broad consensus), it’s crazy to think it’s ok to place a bet on your own when you can so easily just completely avoid that

I can’t get with anyone who refuses a prenup, why would you not want to protect yourself!?

I honestly think yall are beating a dead horse with #3 for absolutely zero reason, but another angle of this is that you get insurance because even though you may plan on driving safely, not everyone does, and someone ELSE may cause you to need to utilize your insurance. Likewise, perhaps you plan on eternity with your partner, but they could always become unloyal, or they go thru something that changes themselves as a person and they don’t want the relationship anymore. Anything can happen.

because you’re legally required to

I understand both sides of the prenup argument, but personally it just would kind of feel like my partner was planning to leave me one day. Idk my brain is weird. But I can see why they could be beneficial

You can’t register a vehicle in any state without having the minimum insurance plan. So this point makes very little sense

Legally requiring prenuptial agreements, I like it

So you people genuinely would not get insurance if it wasn’t legally forced upon you?

When and where did I say that? And you’re replying to one person so where did “you people” come from😭

Well that’s the argument here. “It’s not a fair comparison bc it’s legally required” (despite it is, tons of people drive illegally without insurance all the time). So you’re implying the only reason you people get insurance isn’t for it’s benefits and protection in the unwanted worse case scenario, it’s because you’re legally required to

The people who are trying to be all technical about how u legally have to get it are the same people who don’t understand the mindset behind a prenup. Point is would u get insurance on anything if it’s required or not?

I only got insurance because of the legal requirement, I pay X amount of dollars every 6 months for a vehicle that has never been in an accident, it would be cheaper to just fix damages to my car as they happen because the accumulative cost of my insurance is greater than the cost of repairing my vehicle in the event of an accident. The only reason insurance is even remotely useful is if your car is totaled, however this is not a directly comparable situation and that was my only point.

Prenups are great tho and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. I just simply wanted to say that you cannot directly compare the 2

if you have a beater, don’t get full coverage? You’re required to have insurance that will fix the other person’s car, not your own.

You mean you’d feel like they were planning to leave you if they objected to one? Or if they wanted one?
