I’m a guy so my aesthetic peculiarities are more focused on bikes and cars than rings, so that should be noted. But still, to me if one side is your image of a perfect ring and his is an existing ring that means a lot to him and his family, I’d go with that one. Assuming you like the family and feel honored carrying it. I’ve gotten a lot of things from my gf that I didn’t originally love the style of but they completely grew on me
