Youre not being selfish. Its hard, shes old, but frankly THEY are selfish for being around her having recently had covid. Youre keeping yourself safe, you could have nothing to do for the next 3 months, and you would be justified. They shouldnt be risking grandmas health nor expecting anyone else to risk theirs, facetime her during the party and visit when youre next available

a pretty big science speech in Washington DC in a couple weeks. My immune system is generally pretty crappy, so I know I would get quite sick if I went. I feel super bad, but ended up turning around and going back home so I wouldn’t have to cancel DC. Family is blowing up my phone and say I’m being selfish and I’m neglecting my grandma. AITA

Thank you ❤️ I just feel bad because she has dementia, and my family told her that I’m not going to her birthday because I don’t want to. She doesn’t understand this because I’m not there in person to tell her otherwise (she doesn’t remember it if I tell her over the phone)

Ugh Im sorry, wishing the best for her and your family, all you can do is reach out and reassure her and visit when you can, definitely try to explain to your family again but dont bother beating a dead horse if they arent receptive, sorry theyre putting you in that position 🫶🫶
