Assuming you don’t have a degree, I fear $14/hr is pretty decent in this economy :/ especially if it’s a short drive, good benefits, etc. also my reference point is being 3 years into my career with a degree and law school experience, with a wage of $21/hr. It’s enough to pay rent, save, etc.

Before we get all butthurt defending OP as per usual, just hear me out -didn’t go to school -parents are upset because they want the best -whatever OP was doing (not much) wasn’t working -OP is content with 14/hr instead of pushing for more to be independent again

Tell them that if you immediately quit it’ll be a bad rep on your resume. If they keep pressing, keep up with your current job until you can save up to move in with a roommate or can afford a dorm. They’re definitely over reacting and pushing way too hard for something that’s nearly impossible. Scoring a job rn is sooo fucking hard, they should be proud that you got one. Them pushing so hard makes me wonder if they’re struggling financially and trying to press you to pay their rent

No degree = no school No one will ever know if you quit right away, omit it from your resume Bud, work at a factory or warehouse and grind all the hours you want you’ll be much better off. Literally Dunkin’ Donuts is in the 20’s now

it's not unreasonable for them to want you to continue looking, and it's not unreasonable for you to devote much less of your time to looking for employment now that you are employed. As for your resume... you don't have to put something on your resume just because you did it, you can be selective and just leave out that you worked somewhere for a short amount of time.

You applied to 20 jobs over a few days? Dude… that’s nothing. My friend was applying to 20 jobs a day for like two weeks…

OP, you will not be able to move out of your parents on 14/hr. Not now, not ever. Get real and look for meaningful ways to support yourself

Seriously, $14 is very decent. Minimum wage where I’m from is $7.25 and most retail jobs hire at $10-$11 and that’s with them requiring experience as well

NKY/Cincy, it’s because I work in the news. Severely underpaid industry, but it works for my budget

-I did go to school, it was too expensive to keep up -I’m not saying I’m content with $14/hr but if I quit now after just getting hired today, it’s going to look bad on me -I found a cheaper option close to home for a more realistic path (will take saving first), but I need to save up (and I have time since I won’t be starting for at least 5 months)

In my state (won’t name for the sake of privacy), most jobs don’t pay more than $15/hr if all you have is a HS degree (like I do)

I’ve applied to over 20 jobs in the past few days, ranging from retail to sales to restaurants to factories, and even then, with my qualifications, like I said, nowhere is paying more than $15/hr unless I do overnights (which brings me up to average $17/hr, but very few places within 30 minutes of me is hiring overnights (I did apply for almost every job that was tho)

This, for my current position I was applying to 50+ a day, 3-5 interviews a day. They were all scheduled and I was ready. They don’t need to know I already had two interviews that morning. And there’s no excuse not to be able to get the best job you can get. I felt like I lived out of my car for a while, driving all over, but it was worth it
