I’m a woman and I have a male coworker who calls everyone pet names (honey, baby, sweetheart, etc.) and I know he calls everyone by them regardless of gender but it makes me feel uncomfortable so i asked him to stop and one of my other coworkers said
Honey and sweetheart I think are fine but when you add baby or babe to the mix that’s when it’s different now and becomes sexualized in my opinion. NTA bc those words change the entire dynamic

It depends on the exact words and context. For example, lots of people in the south use names like sugar, sweetheart…
However, politely asking someone to stop never makes you an AH. If you were rude about it though, yea not cool.

Is he southern as fuck or just weird?

If you were polite about it, no. If you weren’t, still no but that would have been the courteous thing to do.

I was just like ‘hey can you not call me pet names i dont really like it’ and he was super cool about it just said ‘no prob I’ll stick to your name’ it was just that my other coworker got all upset and said i was trying to paint him as sexist even though i swear i wasnt

He obviously didn’t mean to make anyone uncomfortable… calm down #5! The only one who’s the AH in the situation is the coworker who overreacted.
