My friend and I were talking about the movie Obsession. They said they genuinely didn’t realize bear was the villain until they saw discussions abt the movie. They say it’s bc the movie made him too “relatable.” They don’t realize why that’s bad…

I think that’s the point, he’s meant to be an initially relatable character that becomes a villain over the course of the movie, but there isn’t one exact moment when he does. When he makes the wish he doesn’t immediately become a villain, as it’s relatable to wish to be loved nowadays, and he keeps making morally gray decisions for the rest of the movie because there’s no 100% right options

Depending on how you relate to bear or view relationships it might take longer or shorter to view him as a villain, and your friend isn’t an asshole for being on the later end of that spectrum, just sounds like good opportunity for you and your friend to talk more about the movie
