AITA for thinking my roommate should not leave her dishes in the sink for more than a few hours? It’s been an issue w multiple roommates. I clean my dishes immediately cuz ik I’ll be too lazy to clean later but it’s hard to clean when the sink is full

As much as I want to agree with you, I think if they’re doing it within 24 hours, it’s reasonable. I also clean my dishes immediately, and dirty sinks gross me out, so I get it, but people have their own routines and habits. What I’d recommend is getting a sink bucket/dishpan that the dirty dishes go in so it can be removed when you want a clean sink to wash in. Or can be placed beside the sink permanently to keep the sink free of anything. Not a perfect solution but better than nothing

I haven’t said anything to her but I find it extremely annoying when people leave their dirty dishes in the sink. Because when I go to clean my dishes, I have no room to, so it’s awkward and uncomfortable. And I tend to splash water outside the sink cuz her dishes take up so much space. Just do ur fucking dishes immediately after cooking and keep shared spaces clean.

How long does she take to clean her dishes? If it’s less than 24 hours than you have no reason to complain

It depends. Sometimes it’s within in a day and other times it takes longer. What usually happens is she’ll leave her dishes in the sink for around a day, clean them, then immediately fill the sink with new ones soon after. I feel like the sink has her dishes in it 70-80% of the week. Imo, if they’re in there when I’m doing dishes then yes I have a reason to complain. It makes it extremely hard to wash dishes if it’s stacked with dishes.

Ooh that’s smart. I get grossed out really easily though I don’t want to touch her dirty dishes but it would be nice to temporarily clear the sink

Yes!!! And then when she finally does put them in the dishwasher, she doesn’t even rinse or scrape them off!!! I went to use a fry pan yesterday and they all had greasy residue on them!!! Like girl how do you not care that these didn’t get properly cleaned
