why did he drop out? did he have to support his family or did something happen to him?? lots of people can’t finish their education

I’d feel similarly. Not a great feeling that we put so much emphasis on education like that but I’d j be curious to know why he didn’t go. Did he not like it? Or had to take care of family? Was the system not working or was sm baring him from going? And then I’d be curious if he’d ever want to get his ged or continue his higher education and what his general plans are for life j out of curiosity

Is he still an intelligent person? Does he treat other people well? It’s not abt the degree it’s about the person and their reasons for dropping out.

I’d try to understand why he didn’t go to hs and then depending on the reason go from there, if he really is a good person then try and reach out and dig deeper

like he makes great money idc about a college degree (im finishing my masters w/ 2 undergrads so a bachelor’s or associate’s used to be a requirement bc the men i used to talk to would get insecure that i ‘was smarter?’) but im j concerned that if we have kids that if they wanna drop out he’ll be okay with it. and the fact his mom let him drop out before hs and that the state did nothing is a bigger ick for me now bc he was literally a child

i grew up in a household where education was mandatory so i’m trying to get over those views like not going to higher education wasn’t an option let alone hs. he grew up deep south georgia so maybe it’s different there than the midwest

i didn’t find out his finances until 4 months in and i was helping him look for apartments so it’s not even that. plus id make more than enough so why would i care about that lmaoo that’s so not part of the equation

Oo I see the hesitation for you yeah. I think honestly that’ll come down to a conversation abt it and it being like a non negotiable for you like your kids must finish hs, while being mindful that that may not be as common an expectation(?) where he’s from.
