Unfortunately, YATA, though I don’t think a big one. There are lots of reasons people elect to get cosmetic surgery, and given the importance of appearance in Western culture (though not western culture alone) there is a great deal of social pressure. While some may be motivated by pure self centredness, it’s not an assumption one can make.
Also, Sometimes the scars are on the inside where they’ve been bullied since childhood or don’t feel like their true selves and it’s not really my business if a cosmetic procedure helps them feel better. And a good clinic will require procedures like this to be signed off on by a therapist. So this is in the “humans are complicated and it doesn’t effect me” category of events I don’t have to spend time thinking about
I mean, again, if its their money and theyre an adult, who cares. I dont get it personally and whether or not its heavily influenced by societal pressure is another conversation. Adults can spend their own money however they please as long as it doesnt hurt anybody (besides themselves if they want ig)
