I handle this with two adjustments: 1) buy them a plastic wash bin. It sits next to the sink, and you can pile their dirty dishes in it for whenever they feel like cleaning them, but you aren’t inconvenienced by the mess. 2) buy a single plate, bowl, fork etc that are visually different from theirs. Use only those. It becomes clear who the mess belongs to.
