AITA For not allowing anyone to vape IN my home because I just don't like nicotine? Like idc if we're outside. I only give a shit when we're in MY apartment. I'm not telling my friends to quit, I just don't want vapes being used in my place. Same w/ cigs

NTA, but you are potentially being massively hypocritical if you smoke in your home and won’t let people vape in your home. How ok you are with being a hypocrite is up to you

Like my place isn't drug free. I smoke. We drink here sometimes. There are just certain substances that I won't allow in here because I don't want it here. Like meth. I will never allow meth into my apartment but I feel like that is more socially acceptable to ban. I feel I'm being an ass because the sole reason is that I just hate nicotine. But again, I'm not gonna force my friends not to vape. They just can't do it INSIDE my home

Not the asshole. Your home, your money, your rent, and your safe space! If then can’t respect that cut them off

Not an asshole per se but a bit of a hard ass. Cigs are absolutely reasonable bc they smell bad. Nicotine vape dissipates in a few seconds and doesn’t necessarily leave a scent. But at the end of the day it’s your apartment and you have the right to set ground rules that your friends should respect.

I feel like people are missing the point. It’s his/her house/apartment, she paid for it. He/She can make the rules.

I’m in the same boat two roomates vape and I want to ask if they can keep it to their rooms/not in common spaces or if that’s unreasonable. I don’t do any substances and never lived with ppl that did and not sure how to go about it esp cause it doesn’t smell, I just don’t want it near me

No it’s your apartment and it’s your boundaries. I’d assume you’d ask someone if it was okay before smoking weed at their place and respect their position, so others should do the same

I just wouldn’t have friends who do any form of nic atp. Vaping is used to mask the nicotine and smell from other people because it’s so addictive that during a lot of functions if they had to step outside they’d barely be inside spending time with others. Maybe it’s bc it’s normalized in my household and doesn’t bug me unless I’m getting hotboxed in the car, but it just feels like a power trip to me. You smoke, they just smoke a different but very similar substance. Why would I want to be

Well it's because I'm okay with Weed and I hate nicotine. The rule is not in place because of the aspect of smoking, it's based on what kind of drugs I want in my apartment.

Right that’s fine, but weed smell sticks and lingers and leaves residue on ceilings and walls. Vape pens dissipate within 10 minutes and leave minimal residue. It’s more appropriate to allow vaping inside than it is to allow weed smoking inside. You’re actively destroying your place by doing it inside and being massively hypocritical by not letting them do the less damaging one. It’s your house, your rules, you’re not an asshole for them, just dumb imo

they alr said they don’t care abt the smell it’s the substance that they care abt. ik plenty of ppl who smoke weed but quit baling and don’t want it around them so they don’t go back to an old habit. arguing a boundary is just disrespectful.

It’s still hypocritical. Esp in that situation. “Your addiction is gross but my addiction I replaced it with is fine” is even worse 😂

…around someone smoking THEIR drug of course that they don’t physically have to rely one when I’m not even able to take a measly hit off a cart? I’m not even a nicotine smoker, I just smoke weed, but my god just tell them to not blow it in your face and you’ll be fine. It’s not like it’s meth and it’s silly to act like it’s anything near that substance

Well that's actually why I use weed.. It's not as bad as other stuff. It eases my chronic pain after a long week of classes and I still feel like I have control over how much I use it. Vaping is way more addictive. All of my friends who vape started off saying they won't get addicted and now 2 out of 5 are struggling to quit while most of us normally smoke weed only a couple times a week.

Yeah but it's not about the smell. It's about the substance. Like I said early, vape is just one of the many drugs that are banned here in my apartment. I think because of how accessible it is, like alcohol, it's more normalized. And at the end of the day, I don't want nicotine in my home.

ur aware there are ppl out there who smoke weed that aren’t “addicts” right😭 ik so many ppl who can make a gram last months while others smoke every night weird to assume everyone’s a raging stoner just cause they say they smoke a lil weed lmfao

Ofc there are. But also a majority of people who use it, especially young, develop strong dependency and abuse patterns. And personally, being unwilling to go outside and smoking IN the house is certainly not a good sign on that front

it’s HER apartment??? she can device what is and isn’t allowed in it and if a guest argues that then that’s on them and they can leave? how are you this dense when it comes to bare minimum boundaries?? she’s not talking abt roommates she’s talking abt GUEST in HER HOME

Right that’s why I said they’re not an asshole. They can make literally whatever rules they want about their house and it’s completely valid. I’m calling them a hypocrite, and whether you, or they, or anyone considers than asshole or not is up to them. I don’t think it’s being an asshole
