Why do so many anime portray romance as juvenile? Like holding hands and a kiss is super extreme? Nah, let me see some actual romance I’m tired of this blushing at the slightest hint of affection and the overly embarrassed about every little thing

The most popular romance genre in the world is teen romance That’s why we got stuck with a billion hunger games clones when that came out Romance is almost always meant to appeal to teens so they show teens

Sure, but why the intense blushing when hands are held? Why the almost fear of nudity or kissing or anything like that? I just don’t get what audience that is for

in japan it’s more intimate to do that with someone if that makes sense? like even calling someone by first name is only if you’re close. it could also just be anime tropes but generally in japan kissing/nudity isn’t fully shown in anime unless you seek it out (but fanservice definitely exists)

I don’t even mean for fan service or horny time. I mean two characters who have established feelings for each other. But theres never a consensus. Like, one character is aggressive flirting, but when it lands and is reciprocated they get flustered and “wait what are you doing? I was kidding…” it’d just a weird and common trope to keep perpetuating imo. Doesn’t feel like a real relationship/romance when intimacy is so taboo

true that is a weird trope, but there is anime where the romance is properly reciprocated if you look for it. i feel like these tropes are usually in romcoms or something with a more lighthearted tone, but i do agree that it’s kinda frustrating at times. although i feel like the trope you’re taking about is tsundere type characters, who usually don’t admit their true feelings because of feeling embarrassed.
