I could definitely see where you are coming from. I watch mostly shounen just because it keeps my attention longer compared to others. And shounen doesn’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to female characters. But I think when people are trying to talk about this topic usually it’s in the shounen genre because it’s more widespread. Shojo and others definitely has well written female characters that have beautiful stories.
But for me it’s easier to mostly talk about shounen characters because that’s the first that come to mind. It’s hard for me to compare the two because they are completely separate in my mind like they have different things that I’m looking for when watching. But that’s just my opinion 🤷♀️
honestly tho if you want to look at well written, strong HxH women, look at Machi and Shizuku from the troupe. the author took stereotypical “woman” roles like cleaning and sewing and made them into some of the most busted characters in the show, especially Machi. there’s obv more to their characters but it can be something you can look into deeper if that’s something you like.
