normally this might be weird but: -the one piece cast is explicitly inspired by many races and is not all japanese -oda states that his minimal shading is a stylistic compromise to save time -toei anime skin tones already don’t match the official manga

Not having One Piece girl bodies is obviously fine since that body is unattainable in real life. The faces though are crazy for 2/4. At this point someone make a live action Naruto make Naruto Mexican with super long hair and Sasuke black with short hair

This is pretty straightforward an explanation. Thank you for taking careful care to expand on skin tone decisions coming down to timing of weekly issues and episodes. The hangups people have about the race of actors gets gross really quickly and they contribute nothing to discussion about the work or adaptation.

This such as cope, Nami and Nojiko and sisters yet they are a different race? If Oda doesn’t care about skin tones in the toei anime then why did he change Nico Robins skin tone to be much lighter post time skip? Why didn’t he just leave the original skin tone that was used pre time skip?

Yeah that’s what I’ve been thinking the whole time. Like they’re pretty accurate to where Oda said they would be from. And nonetheless it doesn’t really matter to the story either? Like there’s no storyline where skin color is a defining trait/huge aspect.
