the popularity of anime was definitely on the raise in 2019 but 2020 is the year it REALLY skyrocketed. People were stuck inside and had nothing else to do so they gave anime a shot 🤷‍♀️

The issue is not that it went mainstream, the issue is that it kind of created a guideline for what should and shouldn’t get adapted or is recognized as “good”. The things that are getting adapted are mostly of the same categories usually, you don’t see as much diversity being recognized anymore, at least in pop anime.
