Actually explained in a cool flashback story. His mom and him loved having black tea together. After she died her tea set was stolen or sold off. Once he was finally able to get it back and make a cup of black tea, he wanted to take a sip and the teacup handle broke off dropping the cup shattering. After that he started holding it as he does.
