I disagree on how they are presented BUT i will argue that they should stay in the anime. I can explain why if you want

I can’t see any logical reasoning behind them needing to stay in the anime, they don’t add on any nuance or detail or required understanding for the audience, it’s simply useless gross fan service

I think its presented like fanservice which i kinda really hate But the themes do show how important it is to the show

Dandadan is a show about people who have lost their agency through multiple ways, and how we as people arent broken down by it. Both the main characters were basically SA’d, and each arc showcases someone else whose lost their agency somehow. Acrobatic silkies backstory, the punching shrimp guy, etc

And yet each can be redeemed, none are broken beyond repair. Its how wr can still laugh after each of these terrible scenes bc these moments dont define us, and (theoretically) dont define the show/manga Still way too much fanservice in its presentation tho

that’s fair but there’s more ways to show a loss of agency than just SA scenes. when like two thirds of the villains try to get all rapey, even if i’m being charitable it still dilutes the shock and feels a little lazy, and with that much fanservice it really doesn’t seem all that benign tbh. if you really want to keep the effect it would work just as well with fewer rapists taken more seriously

like this last episode used a hot springs SA threat scene as a little aside to advance the plot, and so far its only significance is “these are the bad guys”, that’s nowhere near enough depth to consider it done in good taste

Yeah i agree they handled it poorly, but i still think not including any sort of SA scene dilutes the themes. The hot springs scene tho has no real reason to exist, we already had enough

The first scene (handled horribly as it is) is frankly pretty important. The only reason momo gets saved is BC of the SA, turbo granny’s whole thing is despising the ones who assault young girls Still a little confusing on why turbo granny right after attacks momo as okarun, prob shitty writing to make dramatic tension

Or she recognized her as a threat

I disagree. It’s very clear that the sa scenes are reduced to gag fan service scenes, instead of holding any thematic weight. Like the way it always depicts momo in these suggestive positions makes it evident that it’s for the male gaze. If it were really for “sa representation,” they would further unpack her trauma after each assault, and yet it’s always brushed off

Oh i agreed that its there for fanservice and its done awfully However i disagree it needs to go through “unpacking her trauma”. Shes strong, she doesnt need that because she has an even stronger support network

Also i didnt say it was there for SA representation, it was there to reinforce the themes around loss of agency and how we heal past it and it doesn’t define us
