I’m gonna defend one aspect of Demon Slayer’s story, while acknowledging it is nothing new for people who have a larger frame of reference for anime: The story Gotouge set out to tell was clear from the beginning and ended when it needed to. It didn’t needlessly drag things on like a lot of other shows, not even just anime.
Perhaps I framed that badly. I enjoyed the story that was told. The thing for me that gives it staying power is that it was conclusive. It set out the narrative from the beginning and (as the manga is concerned) was paced effectively, though the last arc shotgun spread a lot of escalation that at least found a solid conclusion. It’d be lazy of me to point at Naruto and Bleach of going beyond the pale in meandering with filler and horrendous power creep but serves as a touchstone example of
I agree some series (One Piece) have the worst pacing ever and get unnecessarily dragged out for wayyy too long especially when its animated. I do appreciate the conciseness of the story and how the author write with purpose. I call it mid because there’s not as much depth or world-building that I would like and muzan is also pretty one dimensional but its still a great read and I still get hyped when watching it as well lol
Yes of course. The world building leaves more to be desired, especially considering the timeframe of the show is set in the Taishō era, around 1910-1926. For the story being as conclusive as it is, there’s no wiggle room to expand on concepts in earlier historical eras, but a better writer than me could probably make it work.
