A lot of people seem to praise "A Place Further then the Universe" for representing teen girl friendship, women in leadership roles (and in stem), and well written characters

PMMM, Monogatari (yes, it’s actually a really good deconstruction of harem and female anime character tropes), Ghost in the Shell, Mushishi, Mononoke (emphasis on this for tackling really heavy women’s issues like mother-daughter emotional abuse and misogyny in the workplace), Tatami Galaxy, Read or Die
