Just finished the One Piece anime… The story starts SLOW, very slow, but I promise you everything is all connected. The art style stays goofy but it doesn’t detract from the seriousness of the themes within the anime! Final score: 8.7/10

I never understand why people say it starts slow, I was hooked within the first couple episodes because we get clear wants from the main characters right away, and once I saw chouchous story, I was bawling and knew Oda was a phenomenal storyteller

It definitely starts slow. It doesn’t get good until Baratie imo and becomes peak around Enies lobby/sabaody

True, but I’d consider 1k+ episodes of anything finished if that was a “first season” 😂

There’s definitely clear signs of where the anime is headed from the very beginning, but to get to the actual major plot points and world-shaping events takes some time! I’d say, really, once you get to Water 7 is where things begin to really pick up and then Sabaody after that, but it’s literally all connected in some way. Like, with Baratie, Sanji never changes. He just doubles down on his morals which is awesome to see!

I’d argue that Water 7 is when it becomes clear that the story is much more than just a goofy anime, and that’s why people say it starts out slow. For me personally, it’s always started off quite strong with story
