I guess they both deal with themes of growth and change, and they do both share the insanity that comes with a Gainax project, but otherwise I’d say they’re pretty dissimilar. Still very good though, and only six episodes to boot. I say give it a shot.

If u really want to never be bored again read the index light novel Much much better than the anime and the anime really only covers the intro to the series
