Meh so what? I mean, the dentist is a medical professional and he will definitely NOT judge you whatsoever. You don’t even have to address it. Just don’t mention when was the last time you went. Even if he asks, just say: “it’s been a while…” dentist in particular are pretty good at not being annoying about the history. Honestly, they don’t really need much more history than what they can see.

And even if he says something like: “why didn’t you come in sooner?” Or “why hadn’t you addressed X?” Just say, “I didn’t have dental insurance until recently… this is my first visit in a while”. Being rather vague is a safe bet.
