I’m a transfer student this year and haven’t walked the entire campus yet. I plan to next week once I move in. But in the meantime, I have a class that only have 10 minutes to get to, and from the map it looks to be across campus. (Finish in comments!)

is it reasonable for me to email the professor of the class I will be walking to, and let them know that I may be coming in a few minutes late, and just explain the situation?

Yeah dog. Thats more than reasonable. It’s respectful as well. You know you might be late. That’s going to happen if they have a heads up or not. So better to give them a heads up just in case right? Best case; you’re never late and the teacher appreciates how you busted your ass to get to class on time. Worst case you’re late constantly but the teacher knows it’s out of your control. Sending love 😁🤟

Absolutely! Most campuses are big enough that it’s impossible to get from one end to the other in only 10 minutes, unless you have a car or bike.

Thank you!! One more thing, when I address them in the email should I just assume and use Dr? I don’t want to be rude and address them by their first name. Or should I say Dear professor (last name) ?

It’s always better to go with the more formal thing and then go to the more casual one if they correct you.

I will do that then. Thank you for the help!

99.99% of professors are doctors. It’s kind of a requirement to teach at college level. If you really do care, you can go with “Professor XYZ”.
