I keep compulsively picking my face when I’m doing some stressful task like homework/quizzes. I pick at my nails too and it’s been going on for at least seven years. I need to stop it somehow bc it’s ruining my skin. Does anyone else have the same issue?

i started using fidget toys/rings for this reason. I was able to completely stop picking at the skin by my nails. I still have a bit of a problem with scalp picking but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was.

Yes I have so many acne scars and always rip my nails when they’re so long and my scalp— have never been able to stop either unfortunately

Lowkey read atomic habits. If you’re not a reader look up summaries maybe. Any ways there’s a section on how he or someone else used to bite their fingernails and to stop they started caring for their nails and taking pride in them looking good. So maybe get a skin care routine and then you’ll take pride in your face and won’t want to pick it

I’ve had multiple occasions where I’ve accidentally picked at my fingers too much and made myself bleed in front of the class unintentionally 😭

Honestly i’ve been able to curb the scalp one by focusing on my arm acne and the nails one by constantly clipping my nails. Its become a thing where if i’m stressed i’ll just clip my nails

I used to pick at the dead skin around my nails (cubicle and lateral folds) but now I use nail clippers. At least it’s less likely to bleed but my fingertip still feels raw all the time :(

I find fidgets often unsatisfying, is there a particular kind you think is helpful or does it not really matter?

I don’t think the issue is not taking pride in my face, but I think cleaning it more in the past did help. I will try that more!
