You can (and should if you are healthy) get randomly bricked up yes. Erections are blood flowing through the dick so your body needs to do it every once in awhile excluding sexual relations

It can be random, though that's not that common. However what is very common is erections caused by non-sexual touch. It does not mean he's in the mood, it just means the contact is very stimulating
