do you think the addition of usernames ruined yy? it killed the authenticity for me, bc whenever i see someone with a username who comments or post it's pandering for upvotes/clout.

I think the delocalization of yikyak was the worst part, I miss being able to see if someone was a mile away or whatever at my actual school

I don’t think it was that big of a leap from people just recognizing an emoji and color combination, having that already made it less purely anonymous. I get how seeing the same person in every comment section could seem like begging for clout, but I don’t think it makes much difference in most cases

Not by itself but that’s a part of why. When it stopped going local and became (imo) a mix of the worst parts of Reddit/Twitter. I do like the communities feature, but that’s about it

I don’t mind the addition of usernames, as long as commenting anonymously is still an option. I think that’s where the original YikYak went wrong and nuked itself, when they tried to force usernames

by posting repeatedly with a username you are creating and online persona, you are no longer fully anonymous college aged man. you are seeya_space_cowboy, and people will inevitably start to remember the things you say and you'll have a whole online reputation. if you truly didn't care about that then you wouldn't post with a username

i post with a username because its fun to recognize other people in the comments, not because i want internet points. enjoying the community aspect of a social platform does not equate to wanting clout imo but you're free to think what you want ab me🤷🏽‍♂️

i'd agrue the point of yik yak was to foster a sense of community through the total anonymity since the community was your literal local community before it expanded to nationwide.

i didnt though😭 your argument is that my comments are pandering for clout, which they aren't; its genuinely what i think. i dont care about clout or upvotes. i gain joy in the sense of community, im not fueling some need for recognition. the two are not the same.

i made one complaint, and i never said i didn't like the app. i dislike the use of usernames bc it ruins the total anonymity, the app is still technically anonymous but not as much as before and i think it ruins part of the appeal and makes too similar to other social platforms, but over i still obviously like the app enough to keep using it. like damn yall act like you've never complained abt anything ever before
