I know exactly what you are going through. After my freshman year, my dog was a shadow of the dog I left few months back. I ended up having to put her down shortly after. We are getting to the age where our childhood dogs are elderly 😔😔 I wish you and your dog the best. DM me if you need to talk about it. Btw I’m also a veterinary PA so I can help you manage his deterioration too!

I feel that. Moved across the country for work and have comeback for Thanksgiving and Christmas and my dogs struggling more and more. Probably the last time I’ll get to see her and it’s a huge bummer.

My dog passed senior year of hs but my parents got a dog to replace me when I went to college so thankfully that guy's got a long way to go. He's currently attacking the couch rn

My 19 year old childhood cat just passed. It’s the worst part about pet ownership and having to go away for school. You miss out on those years of their life.

Good prep for when/if your parents start to do the same. Cherish your time with them as well and you might be able to, by the grace of God, save them from many health problems.

He still plays like a puppy though, just can’t run as fast or as long.

Might be worth looking into. The best one is called Cosequin. It’s sold online and in most pet stores. It helps heal and protect joints. It’s specifically important for large dogs

Well, it still can be helpful. Especially if it’s having joint problems

Also in animal medical care - turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory. I second cosequin. We give it to older birds as well for joint health. Getting some stairs to help them in and off the bed could help too.
