People often use two different conflicting definitions. The first is about how modern society and technology makes it easier to connect on a superficial level and harder to make really good friends. It’s also about how expectations of “being a man” involve hiding emotions and working hard. The second is the more incel-y “women don’t like men anymore and getting a girlfriend is impossible”. Lots of people attack it because of the second, without realizing that the first is a legitimate concern.
