He forgot about a critical part of the ADHD iceberg, let him know it's his fault

Why do you want him to understand? You think you need medication? Does he still schedule your Dr’s appointments/are you on his health plan or something that would make that his call?

he literally physically cannot understand it because he doesn’t have the same problem

Bc they don’t have the same problem, they’re never gonna understand what it’s like bc they don’t go through it. They’ll always just say focus harder, or stupid shit like that

Bc he doesn’t have adhd? That’s like asking why a dog will never understand what it’s like to be a cat

I disagree kind of. My parents don’t fully understand obviously, but they do their best to try. They read about it, we talk about it, etc. That should be the expectation from a parent imo

so what that means he shouldn't even make an effort to try?? and should continue to disregard my mental illness??

Not really? I also do think he has adhd he just doesn’t view it as a mental disorder but that's a conversation for a different day. I should expect him to understand that my brain works differently and that what works for other people don't always work for me and be accepting of the way I accomendate myself. Since it doesn't help when he says i'm lazy or "need to focus harder" all that does it just give me more anxiety.

he can understand that my brain works differently though and that i do certain things differently because of that

I have it and I think it’s very easy to understand. I even get why there’s some reluctance to see it as a mental disorder bc of how much sense it makes. Like, yeah honestly I think you’re weird if you DON’T find incredibly tedious tasks boring and easy to get distracted from. Humans weren’t built for that and it takes a very real toll and real effort to overcome, whether you take the view that means there’s anything medically “wrong” with that or not
