Tips for responses to say to customers who are extremely rude or belittling on the phone. I need to remain professional but also stand up for myself or shut down their behavior

Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, be polite and not give them anything to latch onto, by now I’m sure you’ve noticed several dynamics, try and think of a common thread between those interactions and how you can best counteract them professionally

I would simply say “I’m sorry but I can’t help you when you speak to me like this” or “I’m sorry I’m going to need you to be more respectful or else I’m going to have to send you to our complaints department (aka hang up)” also never use your real name if asked.

I have heard before to just go silent or when they start yelling you just start getting quieter and quieter until you whisper
