Would you consider someone an alcoholic if they are always drinking beer (I’ve NEVER seen them go more than an hour without one) but it doesn’t really affect them? If they have hard liquor then they get drunk and when drunk are pretty sad and depressed.

“It doesn’t really affect them” = They have it so often that it has become the default setting and their body has developed a chemical dependency on it. It’s not that it doesn’t affect them, it’s that you’ve *never* seen them without it, so you don’t have any baseline to compare to. Watch them go without it, and then tell me there’s not a difference.

If you get a dictionary and look up the definition of alcoholic, that’s exactly what it says

Please tell them to go to AA and to make sure they’re keeping up with their B vitamins
