He may be avoiding talking to you in a group to stray away from making it obvious he likes you. Calling shotgun could be his way of still wanting to be by you

he immediately starts telling everybody that he gets shotgun—but when it ended up somebody else drove he didn’t care.. am I looking into this to hard or what

Yeah I just can’t tell for sure, there have been a lot of other things that happen in person that make me feel that way, but then he doesn’t text me or anything so I can’t tell. I am kinda a closed off person tbh so he could potentially just be nervous to cross that line but it lowkey makes me on edge around him bc I don’t know what to expect

He didn’t want to just follow you around like a sad puppy all night in a group setting, but he saw a chance to possibly get some one-on-one time with you and tried to jump at it.
