it doesnt surprise me, i've known marriage rates have been on a downwards trend. women have had to marry in the past if they wanted to have a good life, because they were often expected not to get high paying jobs, and needing to rely on having a partner. nowadays that's not the case, and i think there's some unresolved gender issues in society that are making single, independent women reluctant to marry
