i think its an ego protection mechanism. if they get rejected, they never cared that much to begin with so they dont take as hard of a hit to the ego

It’s a sufficient but not a necessary condition. Chalance isn’t the only reason for rejection (of course) but it will pretty much always get you rejected

the reason for them losing interest is not because of the man being chalant
