On economics I moved further to the left, but I moved right on basically everything else. I realized that are a number of subtle, yet significant gaps in the progressive understanding of history, philosophy and global affairs, stemming largely from a lack of scientific rigor. Intersectionality and Marxism as frameworks are commendable examples of systems thinking, but personal biases prevent left wing academics from using them honestly and taking ideas to their logical conclusions, which…
This is the most illogical dumb explanation I have ever heard. Liberals act js like conservatives but in a different font. It’s the same side of the coin. You also js contradicted yourself when u said tht you hate #7 but apparently your side believe in “love and kindness” so where’s the love gng 💀😂
Don’t forgot them bringing up the race card holding it like it’s their ace nd then blasting it all over social media on how they got attacked by conservatives and then creating yet again another fake facade of activism so it can help them feel better when they go to sleep at night
I was gonna join this conversation after work but now yall have devolved too far for there to be any opportunity for intelligent discussion. You’re all (on both sides) just spouting brain dead anti-other rhetoric and trying to assert your moral superiority over each other with no room for common ground
I use my education to make well informed claims and defend those claims in arguments against those who disagree with me. I believe that mostly due to ignorance and being fed propaganda, there are tons of conservatives on Yik yak that spout disgusting rhetoric that is not based in fact. I fight against it because it is the right thing to do. I’m not whining about anything, I’m merely pointing out how counterproductive the conversation you were having was
No. You expressed superiority over conservatives and thanked your liberal education for the ability to do that. Plenty of people with degrees are idiots and plenty of plumbers are brilliant. “Well informed” and “indoctrinated” could be synonyms in this context. Further, nothing is organic bc you already have a personal prejudice again the other side that shapes how you process whatever information you receive.
I’d like you to point out exactly where I expressed superiority, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t. I don’t believe I’m superior. I was saying that my liberal arts education (which, I would like to clarify, means I have studied a wide range of topics, not that I have studied liberalism). I use my education to make well informed claims, based on what is known to be fact/true and think critically about my own beliefs and the information I come across in my life.
Once upon a time, I considered myself conservative. Then, as I learned more and gained more life experience, I realized that I was wrong about many things. No, I was NOT “indoctrinated” by my education. I have never lucky never to have been told what to believe in my education. I was taught to gain all the unbiased information I can and form my beliefs based on what is proven to be true and synthesizing information in a critical way.
I don’t think that I’m better than anyone. I think that I am more educated than the majority of conservatives (a statistical fact, the majority of them do not have a college degree) and I think that I know things that some conservatives do not about the world, things that challenge their beliefs. I feel that it is important to talk about these things that we disagree on in order to find common ground based in reality and truth.
Sounds good. But you don’t automatically know anything more with your education than anyone else, even those who haven’t gone to college. We live in the Information Age for crying out loud. You say you want common ground, but it has to be around your parameters. You’re too arrogant to look for it outside of that. As are most liberals. Particularly those that want to argue.
No I don’t automatically know anything more. But I DO know more about things that I have read about and studied than people who have not read about and studied those topics. For example gender, which I have read about and studied and the average conservative gets all their information from owning the libs YouTube videos and Fox News. In this instance, I probably have something important to say that the less educated person has never considered
Yes. Colleges are full of experts. At an actually good school, you learn from the professors, not the textbooks. But the most important thing that a good education teaches is CRITICAL THINKING. It is an infinitely more valuable thing than “common sense” because common sense is not actually a framework for understanding the world. What common sense really is is a set of established societal norms. That is all that is. Now, people invoke it to dismiss anything that challenges their worldview
“Experts” is subjective. “Can you regurgitate and examine some data and get published occasionally? Great. Here’s your job.” I will say critical thinking is of vital importance and many don’t do it. Like anyone who believed masks during Covid or 6ft separation or a non-tested vaccine. Of course, common sense led to those being questioned as well. Really wasn’t much critical thinking needed. The “more educated” liberals bought and sold it. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes. And I know you think it should bother me. And I know that it bothers you that it doesn’t. And you’re only bringing attention to it now because you need to somehow feel right bc aren’t able to offer any arguments to anything I’ve said because of your own intellectual limits. Maybe if you FOCUSED on your assignments…🤷🏻♂️😬
See this right here is rich. People who believed in masks during COVID aren’t critical thinkers? It is a clinically proven FACT that masks reduce the spread of airborne disease. It is a FACT. However, you will blatantly ignore this fact because you simply don’t like it, and because Fox News or some conservative social media guy told you that masks weren’t necessary and was federal overreach (rich considering the amount of federal overreach the trump admin is doing right now).
Ok but what about the conservatives and other people who also have a degree and are educated? I do agree w some parts u saying how education is critical and being able to form/ regulate your opinions and thoughts are very important especially in a digital word we live in today. I have a degree and currently pursuing medical school route and I’m not even full conservative (rather middle ground). But the liberals I have met and talked with (all w degrees btw) have genuinely been the
Most dumb fucks I have ever met and say the most baseless arguments. Many of you liberals blindly copy one another and then promote this idea that all conservatives are all horrible people. Some are genuinely tryna think for themselves and their livelihood to live the next day. Some may be bad some aren’t. The same way u changed from conservative to liberal is how I changed more to conservative just from seeing how ignorant many liberals are. #5 is clear example of how they are
Christianity LITERALLY DID take over the world already. Remember the British empire? The conquistadors? They spread Christianity to the natives and violently subjugated them. Christianity has always been used to subjugate women. People TODAY are still using the Bible to fig against women’s rights. Many Christians believe gays are wrong and have committed violence against gays, and all lgbtqia+ people.
Well, it never took over the entire world but you’re correct in that a lot of bad things were done in the name of Christianity. But you can’t even come close to comparing modern day Christianity with modern day Islam. The differences, Christians who commit atrocities in the name of religion, are misreading the book. Muslims who do the same, are not.
Christian nationalism, Islamic nationalism, Jewish nationalism. religious nationalism almost always leads to these things. Religious nationalism gave us the taliban, and it gave us the trump administration. Obviously, not EVERY person in a religion is like this. This is why it is stupid and bigoted to say that ALL Muslims want to commit terrorism, to subjugate women, to kill gays, to control the world. Just as it is stupid and bigoted to say the same about ALL Christians.
Actually, bullshit politicians from both sides is what fave us Trump. And he’s KILLING IT, thankfully. I never said all Muslims anything but the difference is Christians will speak out against other Christians’ misdeeds. I don’t see that from the peaceful majority of Muslims. Further, the fact that Islamophobia is a word and Christianphobia isn’t just shows the disparity in what is/isn’t ok to criticize. You even started with “but Christians!” as if that makes awful Muslim behavior excusable.
The reason you can’t explain why it’s a lie is NOT that there is a character limit. You could easily type multiple posts or just give me literally any single reason. No, the reason you can’t explain it is because THERE IS NO EVIDENCE FOR IT. And there is no evidence for it because it is MADE UP. IT IS A LIE. YOU HAVE BEEN LIED TO.
The reason that all you can say is “nuh uh, you’re wrong” is because there is no basis in truth for what you’re claiming. And you assume anything that challenges your beliefs must not be true. You may claim that you don’t assume this, but it is an unconscious bias. It takes conscious effort to overcome this bias. To do so, you must examine WHY you believe the things you believe, which is why I have asked you to explain why exactly college is liberal indoctrination
Ok. Cool. The thing is, I’m not trying to convince you. You think I need to convince you in order to prove myself. There’s that liberal arrogance. It wouldn’t matter at all what I “proved” to you because you’d have an argument to the contrary. Maybe valid maybe not. Likely you’d be “oh yeah? What is your source?” bc you’d deemed only certain sources valid and expect me to adhere to it or I’ve failed. More arrogance. Hard pass. Been down that road before.
You’re obviously evading at this point. Cognitive dissonance get too strong for you? Either way, I would LOVE to be convinced that I’m wrong. That would be an opportunity to learn. When I’m talking to someone, especially debating, I expect both myself and them to make claims that are based in truth, not made up fantasy. At the very least, if you cannot explain why you believe something, you probably haven’t given it much thought in the first place.
My claim that you have been lied to is based on the fact that I have not seen any credible evidence to support the claim that college is liberal indoctrination. Thus, I asked you to explain yourself. So that if I’m wrong, I can learn. I would be happy to do some quick research and tell you exactly why it is a lie.
Sweetie, I’ve done my research and my critical thinking and even just observation and convo with others. You think I’m lying. Great. It’s no skin off my nose. You’re already not listening bc I’ve said several times why I’m not pursuing it further and complying with your demands. Your liberal arrogance is showing.
