Its not empowering for either party. Its created this sickness in our society that sex shouldnt be special. In all honesty i think the effect it has on men is why theres an increase in rape, and other sexual crimes. It also effects womens views aswell. It tarnishes your self image, destroys innocence, damages the human psyche, and ruins relationships

Personally I don’t think porn in the context that everyone is thinking of is empowering at all

The porn where women are receiving, rough porn, basically mainstream porn that men enjoy

see i don’t watch that category so that’s not what i was thinking of at all. That’s why i said it’s more complex than a simple yes or no. I agree that that type of porn can be exploitative and reinforces harmful gender stereotypes

How is it super complex? Have you just not seen how men who grew up on porn have a certain (negative) mentality of women? Not sure how it could be remotely empowering if thats the case

It’s super complex in how women feel about engaging in porn. Some women feel like they’re reclaiming their sexual energy and aren’t caving to purity culture. Someone women are driven to sw because they feel like it’s the only option for them. I’d say women’s relationship with porn and sex work is complex. The porn industry fucking sucks though.

As someone who felt like they were reclaiming their sexuality when engaging in sex with men, I fear in a patriarchal society it shoots you in the foot

And I don’t think so either, but 2 arguments exist for this. 1, the people who say if it is ultimately a woman’s passion to do this and succeed at it, that she may be empowered for embracing this role, and the subsequent fame(?) success(?) that comes with it, being her doing her “victory” per se. MY stance? For a woman to Chase “empowerment” by degrading herself in this manner is nothing short of cruel to her. Everyone deserves so much more…
