Name the 5 best rappers of all time then let’s have this argument again. Seinfeld hasn’t been relevant for over a decade, get it through your head that not everyone watches/follows the same shitOff the top of my head, Tupac, Biggie, Kendrick, Snoop, Eminem. Also honorable mention to Nicki Minjai. I don't expect everyone to have seen the entirety of Seinfeld but you should know enough abt the show to recognize that Kramer is the name of one of the characters. It's old yes but literally considered one of the foundations sitcoms that paved the way for comedy today.
Yeah that's the point of the post. No one our age is a well rounded enough to want to know things about pop culture history. I'm not even that into rap music but could still name a song from each other raps i mentioned. I would understand a reference from classic films, or SNL skits, or some like this example a classic video game. I'm not complaining about ppl not knowing just abt Seinfeld, it's about seeing the need to consume content outside of things they are interested in.
It's literally why in college you're required to take like Cinema/Music/Theatre appreciation classes. Or in high school you were required to take PE classes & read classic literature novels like your average adult should be a well rounded individual and know thier history and what holds popular cultural significance. It's with the stuff you do enjoy is this the stuff you know most about.
The rap music isn’t the point it’s the fact that rap isn’t everyone cup of tea, just like Seinfeld. If someone doesn’t care about how you can grow carrots in your own garden then that’s just not their thing💀there’s a difference between surface level ball knowledge (the show) and mid level ball knowledge (the characters and specific moments from the show)
that's actually pretty sad that not all colleges don't require an art appreciation courses or elective, so it's not ur fault. i just think it's weird that more people aren't well rounded in terms of education on popular culture. also if you truly listen to rap music then you can't deny everyone makes pop culture references literally all the time. I can even think of a song that made a Seinfeld reference, but okay whatever 🙄
It's not that i'm judging people who don't consume the same media as me, it's more than I thought more adults would get various popular culture references I make since it's not like i'm referring to some underground show that no one knows about. plus just in general troupes and references build off of each other within different platforms.
Yes it's a huge umbrella but it all connects with each other? I mean Family Guy makes cut aways bits that are references to musicals, rap music makes references to sports/athletes, books make references to classic films. I just don't understand how like people don't know enough about things to get those references is what i'm saying. I'm not saying you need to be a huge sitcom fan, but i feel like it's not too much to assume someone has a general appreciation and knowledge for basic pop culture
