He was probably more mentally focused on his performance at first, which can make it difficult to just relax and enjoy the sex

I think so, at least for me, I typically last an hour no matter what, few exceptions, but the first couple times with a new girl, I will last a while, just a combo of nerves, anxiety, wanting to perform well etc
