kinda depends on the context? I might describe my ~60 yo coworker as a gem because she’s a sweet lady, I think it’s pretty obvious there that nothings romantic, but you might be using it differently

I would never say that to my girlfriend. I basically don’t talk about other women unless it’s necessary for the story. I certainly wouldn’t praise them like that. She’s never complained about it or anything, I just feel like that’s respectful
