Are restraining orders forever?

Yes. Unless you go before a judge demanding it is lifted AND you have evidence that it was wrong for the restraining order to be issued in the first place.

schools still work in conjunction with local law enforcement so im pretty sure yes

I don’t think this is necessarily true? It’s presumably jurisdiction dependent, and there’s temporary restraining orders people get when in the process of seeking longer term ones.

If a school issued it, that’s not the same as a court issued restraining order, and you’d have to check your school’s policy on it. Violating a school issued restraining order presumably would likely lead to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion, but not criminal charges in the same way as violating a court issued restraining order would I don’t think.
