just make sure you approach it in a way that he doesn’t think you want to pay because the date went bad! it’s a kind offer other than that

I doubt he’ll be upset. There’s no reason to be upset about someone wanting to buy one dinner 😅 My only suggestion would be to not “argue over the bill”. Meaning, offer once and if he says he got it just leave it at that. Don’t do the back and forth. You know?
