I’m not on the side of saying you need one in your house or anything, but teens should get basic education and experience with guns. I would rather a kid know exactly how a gun works and how it feels to operate if/when they pick one up, than have no idea and get themselves hurt. I know too many people who don’t even know how to use a pocketknife, and I’d put general firearm safety in that same category of skill. Education makes kids safer than teaching avoidance, even just one day at the range.
my partner is left leaning but she told me she'll probably get a gun for self protection. same with my old manager (who's a woman). ideally our country would be peaceful & doesn't need to use guns, but compared to other countries, crime is high & worth prepping for. i would say that guns should be legal for now, but heavily regulated & background checked. i also think certain kinds of guns are unnecessary & should be banned. nobody REALLY needs an AR-15 unless they're going on a killing spree
Okay but not everyone has the same experience as you, i live in the north and a lot of people i know have guns, crime is getting worse in my area. Even my dad who is more leftist came home with a handgun one day lol. Its honestly just necessary for home defense like what are you actually gonna do if a bunch of guys break into your car in the morning???? You need a gun to either scare them out or blow them down lmao. That’s just the reality of America
Hey man just so you know, shooting someone or even threatening deadly force for someone breaking into an unoccupied car is illegal, so I would suggest you not do that, no matter how prized this car is. Lethal force is for defending yourself when you are in fear for your life, ONLY.
Yeah it’s fucking bullshit honestly, you have to wait for the criminals to be on your doorstep before taking any action. No clue why the law protects criminals who do nothing for our society. Me personally though as soon as i see them committing a “violent felony” its over for them
If it’s in your garage that’s in your residence then I believe in most states deadly force would be permitted, but the post said breaking into a car. So I assumed the car was out in the driveway or on the street or something because if someone came into my house and tried to get into my car, I’d still say they were breaking into my house. The bigger priority is the house I guess.
I think those are two entirely separate issues, crime and accidents can both exist. Statistically, suicide by gun is a larger cause of death than both together. I don’t think teaching your kids about how guns work will significantly increase their chances of intentionally trying to shoot anyone, if people want to be violent they’ll find a way.
the other problem with that is that you can only decide whether to teach your kids, you can’t really control the rest of the world. If the choice was between guns existing and guns not existing, it totally makes sense to not want them, but with guns already existing anyway, proper education can only help.
well they wouldn't break into my car bc i'd park in my garage first of all. and if they manage to break into my garage the alarm system would go off, and if that still doesn't stop them i have a 2 dobermans they could chase them off the lot id need be. and if they do manage to steal my car the security cameras would've gotten them on tape/video to show to the police so they could hunt them down. and lastly and i have insurance/savings so i could get a new car if the police can't find them.
