The crazy thing is sometimes I’m like yo, what if your taxes went to trains and not drone strikes in Gaza. Or what if like our k-12 students got free lunch. Then mfs are like nooooo you’re the freaking radical freaking left and if people thought like you western civilization would fall. And that’s nuts because I am the radical left, but those are like the most tame views I have lol
We don’t even have a far left in America, everything is skewed so far to the right that saying we want free healthcare, limitations on gun ownership, and our tax money to go to trains, public transport, etc. is viewed as “far left” when this is the norm is most developed countries. That’s liberal IF ANYTHING
Universal healthcare is not a far left concept, it’s actually pretty standard in developed countries. Also our tax dollars barely go to public transport anyways cause auto industry lobbyists are so deep in our politicians pockets. Public transit here sucks. We have the resources and knowledge to build a high speed rail, but don’t get it done
I think with the amount of money we send to Israel, the money towards our military, or taxing billionaires more- we can fund free healthcare. I never said take guns away, I value the second amendment as well, I said we need policies in place to ensure the safety of all of our citizens while maintaining the second amendment. I never said anything about tax funded abortion or gender surgery? If those recommended under a theoretical universal healthcare system, then yeah I guess they’d be free too
Like Bernie Sanders political record isn’t even particularly far to the left. He likely has held more radical beliefs throughout is life, and when he was a mayor, but as he’s reached a bigger stage he’s had to tone some things down. Most of what he proposes is pretty standard in the developed world, but thanks to the legacy of the red scare, Reagan era economic policy, and corporate lobbying his ideas are portrayed as radical and communist. Hell even some people have been led to believe that
Yeah no shit it’s not free. This is why we should increase the top margin rates and reduce the burden on everyday people, the exact opposite of what our current administration did. You know throughout most of the 1900s the top margin tax rate in the U.S. was above 70%, peaking at 91% under Eisenhower, and this was a time of economic great prosperity for the United States. Unfortunately politicians have scared people into viewing this as stealing their money, when this actually benefits the>
Also by the way, the U.S., without public healthcare, already spends the most of any country on healthcare because of a poorly regulated pricing system (again because pharmaceutical companies are in the pockets of our politicians). With restructuring of price negotiations the tax burden of universal healthcare would be far less than what we already have now
You don’t have dms on, so I’ll just say: you come across as well informed, but coming to different conclusions. I think we both want what’s best for the country, but just see it different ways. Feel free to dm me we can chat I love these types of conversations and am happy to get to know you more
