im actually very curious on the male pov of the cornell case & i dont mean “she went to the frat so she consented” or “they were all fucked up so she should actually be charged for rape”. do yall think what happened is despicable or not?

i haven't been keeping up with the case step by step but rape is one of the worst things to be committed and if they are guilty they should have the worst punishment possible. if there hasn't been any real evidence shown yet then they are innocent until proven guilty.

I do not know what happened, I wasn’t there. My understanding is that the police looked into it at the time, decided there wasn’t enough evidence of what she claimed took place to actually prosecute, and now it’s blowing up in the news two years later because she’s suing in civil court over it.

I thought it was awful but for potentially the wrong things like kink shaming cuz even with consent which she didn’t feel was respected, the concept of what happened didn’t feel right in the first place. Looking at the group chat logs, knowing what I’ve seen on this app, it does give the vibe of something that somebody would be into but those people who went in person and saw her condition and still took advantage of her are genuinely fucking less than human

But also there is not enough evidence for criminal charges which sucks but also makes sense I wouldn’t want people to be able to go to jail if there’s no evidence of them committing a crime

It’s obviously wrong but legally there’s nothing anyone can do and those guys are “innocent” legally

follow up: do you agree w the punishment the school made for the men vs what they did to the jane doe?

when a crime like this is so severe i don't think it matters what the school does since the law should be the one involved. in a correct world the school would've suspended those guys from campus and shut down the fraternity that they were in.

i dont mean to hound w questions 😭 but do you have any opinions on the women who are taking a stand w her? like do you think they’re following blindly or they have a reason to?

i think the woman standing up for her have a right to do so and they are doing it out of a good reason even if the guys are innocent. in other words standing up against rape is always good.

what about the take for the men? on either side like saying its wrong and standing up against rape AND the men who arent saying anything on the situation at all

i think the men saying that it's wrong to stand up against rape are stupid. i think the men who aren't saying anything at all aren't forced to. i shouldn't have to say rape is bad for rape to be bad.

If what she claims is true then they should all be in prison. I’m waiting for the facts to come out in court tho, I remember the last time a story like this blew up - the UVA scandal where Rolling Stone published a story about a girl who said she’d been gang-raped at a frat party. The school shut down all Greek life, houses got smashed and vandalized, fraternity brothers had to leave campus over death threats. And then the investigation found out the party never took place and she made it all up

id just like to have it noted, i dont know anything about that specific case nor will i claim to. however, false rape accusations only account for like less than 5% of cases. am i saying what that woman did in that case was right? no. but i am saying not every allegation is a false one

That’s a fair opinion. And to be clear, I am not saying that this one is false. I am just saying I am waiting to cast judgement because I don’t know what’s true and what isn’t.

i dont want to sit here and point fingers and / or accuse of something that isnt true in asking these 2 questions. but why not have an opinion on it? why does it have to be when theres enough evidence for you or other people to then say “rape is bad and rape culture is bad” and THEN stand for & w women for what they go through?

I think that people speaking up against rape in support of her are fine. However, I think the people posting the guys names and faces with “Ruin their lives!” are acting like a lynch mob.

i do agree w the “lynch mob” statement but if it comes out to be true after the court goes through the evidence and everything, those men deserve everything that comes to them.

Rape IS bad, I don’t need to have an opinion on this case to say that. But you asked if I think what happened in this specific case is despicable. And having an opinion on something I don’t know doesn’t make me a good person, it would make me an uninformed jackass. Hence, I wait for facts, and then base my opinion on the facts.

Presumption of innocence isn’t a loophole, innocent until proven guilty is the basis of western criminal law. They were never acquitted or found innocent in court, they were just never actually criminally charged to begin with due to lack of evidence.

I’m saying some kind of warping of terms of consent which is how rapists usually avoid conviction

Well they didn’t avoid conviction, they were just never tried to begin with.

i know some people online have been talking about how under ny law that if you willingly consume alcohol and drugs you can still consent. however im not sure if thats the exact language of it or anything just the basis of things ive heard 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yea that’s pretty much it if u consent to consume drugs or alcohol which she did and make decisions under the influence that’s consent it’s pretty fucked up but that’s the law
