
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong and it sounds like he’s trying to show he cares about you, albeit in an interesting way. Coming from someone studying exercise science in pursuit of a DPT (physical therapy), here’s my take on this: as you age, your bone density will naturally get lower, you can slow this process and even mostly prevent it by exposing your body to high compressive forces (weightlifting being the most common way). This has to be done somewhat carefully
girl it’s LITERALLY for your health. i can’t even explain how many people don’t recover from injuries or surgeries because they did zero weight training. trust me lifting weights won’t make you skinny (or bulky!!). your bone density is determined in your twenties. this will help you for the rest of your life
The reason why this matters is because biological women have less dense bones on average than biological men. Women are much more likely than men to develop osteoporosis as they get older, which puts you at a very high risk for injuries that will not be easy to heal from such as a fractured hip. You don’t HAVE to lift weights if you don’t want to, it is highly recommended however if you want to live a long, functional life. If you have any questions or want/need more clarity on anything-
