I’m a bio major so sometimes I accidentally say female but mainly I just say women

I’m pretty sure it’s relatively common to call women girls because the relationship term is “girlfriend” and also “girl” is a lot more associated with youth than “woman.” Also girl is far more normalized because I’ve never seen a person in my life dislike being called a girl since girl is kind of the parallel of “guy” in addition to “boy”

Sweetie, you’re not offended because of what terms people are using. You’re offended, and those terms are just the current excuse for why.

Men have a disproportionate tendency to use either monosyllabic words or two syllable words joined together by vowels or soft consonants. Look at what we call men: fellas, guys, dudes, bros, gents, boys, etc. Nobody in real life calls adult women ‘females’ by the way, that’s an incel thing or people in special formal professions such as the military.

Accountability isn’t what I’m looking for. I want men to recognize how corny they sound when they dodge a word to purposely be disrespectful

Y’all call men “boys” all the time, no one makes a big deal about it, because it’s not 🤦‍♂️ and what’s wrong with animals? Do correct me if I’m wrong, but I sense a victim card being played

Oh and also “girl” is short to say like “guy” or “man” so it’s naturally going to be more popular

The relationship term for men is boyfriend. With your logic men should be called boys too, but no, they’re called men. Normalized ≠ correct

Anonymous replying to -> #6 13h

My entire point is that it shouldn’t be popular. It’s fucked up when you think about it. Men get the title men or guy, and women are rarely ever called women. Instead yall make up words, and most times they’re offensive or dehumanizing

Anonymous replying to -> OP 13h

I understand that hence why I added multiple other arguments towards my point. The largest one being that girl is the counterpart to guy rather than woman. I find all of the ones you said above to be weird in my opinion other than girl. I have never seen somebody call someone a girl to demean them. In fact I usually hear the word more from women rather than men. I’m not trying to be disrespectful or anything but I do not see any reasonable evidence that calling a woman a “girl” is demeaning

I feel like this point is looking far too deeply into the word “girl” in specific I understand the rest just not that word in specific

The reason I have a problem with girls is because nobody calls grown men boys. People call grown women girls. And I understand both genders do that, but past a certain age, it should not be socially acceptable to call grown adults what we call little kids

For the record however, I would never use girl in a formal setting or an academic setting.
