Yall this is really bad, how come so many men don’t do their part in housework even when the woman is making 2-4 times more?? We’re not your personal slaves, were people

I’ve experienced this myself. I’ve had two different male roommates and same thing

Did this take into account the jobs the men worked vs the women and whether or not the women worked

Why are you asking me as if it’s my fault? There are absolute girlfailures out there too but you don’t see us making it the problem for the entire female gender

It doesn’t take into account the type of jobs, its saying no matter the wage gap women are still conducting more than twice as much housework as men are. Even when women make 4x as much as the man

Second question does this study include yard work as house work

Yard work? That’s like once a week AT MOST. Housework is every day

upvote 3 downvote

Ones a lot more labor intensive

Especially in the fall or if you have a large yard

Yard work isn’t more labor intensive than cleaning the whole house. Scrubbing floors, tubs. Bending down a lot

Most people don’t scrub every floor with a sponge swiffers and shit exist and I don’t think most people scrub the tub more than weekly

Anyways though most men don’t view women as slaves. In my experience it’s been that some women want things done a certain way and if the man isn’t doing it the way they want it they get berated so might as well let them take care of it if they want it done their way

Just saying I can’t think of a single household that I know of where the man pulls his weight in housework. They may not be consciously thinking that but a lot of men feel entitled to that type of labor

I’m not asking anyone to incriminate themselves? I’m citing statistics for a well known cultural phenomena in America and you guys always act like we’re just pulling shit out of our ass or speaking nonsense. Most women who have lived with men have experienced this. Like do yall ever pay attention to what’s happening around you 😭

I’m not targeting anyone? It’s literally called “ask men” as in ask the general population of men about a known pattern with them. I never said all men, if it doesn’t apply then it doesn’t apply to you.. not sure why you have to get so defensive

Besides, your interpretation of the study operates on the assumption that every couple has a clear consensus as to what housework needs to be done, which obviously isn’t the case. The idea that “men aren’t holding up their end of the bargain” assumes there is a bargain in the first place. It’s *far* more likely that women simply tend to have different personal standards of cleanliness than men.

So when I ask “who decided”, I’m suggesting that women like you are unilaterally enforcing your personal standards and expectations of household cleanliness onto men, without any regard for *our* standards or expectations.

Yeah I’m asking why is there such a large gap in the share of housework when it SHOULDNT be a gender thing, whoosh It’s mostly cooking and cleaning, you think houses don’t need to be cleaned and meals don’t need to be made? 😭 HUH I wonder why we don’t have the same standards when most men aren’t socialized to cook and clean in the household, that’s almost like the whole point

Anonymous replying to -> #4 14w

No one decided anything, it’s common sense to pull your weight and contribute to care in a household you live in like what are you going on about What personal standards?? I literally already said I’m not a crazy clean freak. Cleaning still needs to eventually get done bruh. The men I lived with never once considered to clean the bathroom or kitchen we shared. Never once considered cleaning the floors or dusting. They were coddled growing up & taught that women should do all the cleaning

In most cases there is no agreed-upon “share” of housework. It’s not that men aren’t doing the necessary cooking and cleaning, it’s just that men and women largely disagree on what counts as necessary.

You’re the one arbitrarily deciding the weight that men are supposed to pull. Have you considered that women might be doing more housework than what is necessary?

Anonymous replying to -> #4 14w

Yeah but most women’s standards are just “clean” nothing crazy. And most men have little to no standards bc they weren’t raised to cook and clean like women are. It all comes done to archaic and oppressive gender roles. Not that women are genetically better at cooking or cleaning. It’s not some bio essentialist bs

THEYRE SUPPOSED TO CONTRIBUTE ABOUT EQUALLY. 1 divided by two is 50%. It’s simple math like I’m so confused as to what point you’re trying to make. That all women are just crazy controlling betta freaks and naturally better at cooking and cleaning? That seems to be the only point you’re making here

Literally no I have ADHD and my parents didn’t really enforce chores much unfortunately. I promise I have far from unreasonable cleaning standards. I have two cats, theres always white fur everywhere. I leave dishes in the sink oftentimes. I leave things on the counter, the floor. I do live alone rn tho so it’s not impacting anyone else. I’m not always on top of it but I TRY. When I do have a roommate I’m a lot cleaner cuz it’s the considerate thing to do when you’re sharing space…

I could just as easily say that the only point you’re making is “that all men are just lazy pathetic slobs who neglect to clean up after themselves because of their upbringing,” but I won’t, because despite you saying that almost verbatim, I’m mature enough to assume you’re being hyperbolic.

We are actually quite similar, though I’m allergic to cats. I also have ADHD, and my mom is the breadwinner of the family. My dad does nearly all of the cooking, as well as frequent, physically strenuous home renovations at her request. They both love one another deeply, and help each other out when asked. Their relationship is one of cooperation, not competition. Love isn’t meant to be itemized.

Nice anecdote. Women on average do more than twice the work no matter the wage gap. This isn’t a slight variation or statistical anomaly, it’s a stark contrast and pattern repeated again and again while controlling for other factors. Despite women working more and more hours over the decades. Maintaining a household nearly alone is very stressful, time consuming and hard on the body. Stress leads to worse health outcomes, even death

But no let’s ignore all that and boil it down to “well women just have unreasonably high expectations” putting the blame back on women, essentially victim blaming. You’re wanting us to ignore well observed gender roles that harm women to put the fault of this problem ruining our lives and relationships, back on us

Instead of reading the peer reviewed study you decide to come on here and ask why men should contribute equally to the space they share with another human being and then say that this problem is our fault bc our expectations are too high
